On May 1, 2023, Queer/Bar hosted a drag rally at Neumos in support of the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) drag defense fund. Hosted by “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” season 14 finalist, Bosco, the rally was joined by thirty of Seattle’s drag queens, along with DJ Baby Van Beezly, to raise awareness of the many bills that are currently targeting LGBTQ+ people – especially bans against drag-oriented events. The fund will help the ACLU in defending LGBTQ+ people while also expanding their advocacy work.
The event was free of charge, but it encouraged attendees to give a minimum donation of $20 to go towards the fund. Any tips given to the performing queens would also be put towards the cause.
Once the clock hit 7:30 p.m., Bosco came out on stage and was welcomed by the exuberant energy of drag admirers. One by one, she began to introduce each individual queen, each of them performing their own lip sync. Fierceness encapsulated the crowd as each queen made the stage their own. Some performed flips, a few thrilled the audience with full on splits, and many of them did the iconic death drop that left many of us gasping.
The community of Seattle came to the forefront with their support, making the event a night to remember.
