Now that the school is slowly reopening in person again, getting lunch can be a challenge. Some nearby restaurants in Capitol Hill may be a bit pricey on a student budget, but if you walk about five minutes away, you will find lots of inexpensive yet delicious food. Check out the list below for some truly excellent restaurants that won’t hurt your wallet.
1. Hot Mama’s Pizza
If you’re a big fan of the New York-style pizza or just generally like to eat pizza, Hot Mama’s is the place for you. Pizza ranges from $3 to $5 a slice, so you can get more than one slice with different toppings too. It’s located just a block away from the Broadway Performance Hall, southwest on Pine street.
2. Dick’s Drive-In
A Seattle staple, Dick’s Drive-In is an inexpensive treat loved by many locals. The burgers may look simple, but they can satisfy all of your burger cravings. Pair it with the freshly made fries, and you’re good to go, only spending less than $5. Dick’s is located just north of the campus, right next to Capitol Hill Station (you can’t miss the giant signboard!). And it’s open until 2 a.m., so if you need some late-night study snacks, it’s a great option too.
3. Bok a Bok
For just $10, Bok a Bok’s Korean and Southern-style fried chicken sandwiches are a fantastic treat. From the classic chicken sandwich to the Yuzu Green Chile chicken sandwich, their flavors are never lacking. And if you’re even more adventurous with spice — you can also get the Kimchi Mac n’ Cheese or any of the Dirty Tots or fries as side dishes. Bok a Bok can be found on the corner of 10th and Pike street, a little farther south of the campus.
4. Tacos Chukis
While there are many taco restaurants around Capitol Hill, you can’t deny that Tacos Chukis is one of the best. The special house taco is a local favorite, consisting of pork adobada topped with grilled pineapple, melted cheese, salsa, and guacamole. What’s great about Chukis is that almost all of the menu items are less than $10; even if you’re not craving tacos, you can still get something cheap to satisfy your needs. As for location, Tacos Chukis can be a bit confusing to find, especially if you’re new to the area. The restaurant is located on the second floor inside the Broadway Alley mall, a few blocks north of campus.
5. Al Bacha
If you’re craving some mouthwatering authentic Mediterranean fast food, Al Bacha is the place for you. This underrated restaurant serves shawarma sandwiches for just $9 and a combo that includes fries and a drink for only $11. There is also a veggie sandwich menu for people looking for vegetarian options, including a tasty falafel sandwich. Al Bacha can be found on the corner of Denny Way and Broadway, right next to the light rail station.
